Inclusive 5D Applications in Special Education: Sustainable Nature (4008)

Fifteen students with mild mental retardation, who are studying in the city center and districts of Samsun, were given training with inclusive 5D applications with the theme of “Zero Waste” between April 20, 2025.

In the trainings, awareness of recycling and upcycling was raised; questioning skills and curiosity were encouraged. Students' environmental awareness was increased as their cognitive, social, visual and motor skills were developed with the transformation designs.

Both theoretical and practical trainings were organized at the Solid Waste Storage Facility, Zero Waste Village, Alanlı Recep Asal Mathematics and Nature School and Atakum Science and Art Center.

Prof. Dr. Funda Arslanoğlu, one of the experts in her field, also took part in the training process and interacted with the students one-on-one.

As a result of the project, students' awareness of zero waste increased, and their participation in physical and social life was supported with activities aimed at the sustainability of nature. This project was the first study carried out in this context in the field of special education.
