The Hemp Research Institute was first established on April 17, 2019 under the name of Ondokuz Mayıs University. At the meeting of the Higher Education Executive Board, chaired by the Higher Education Council's Education and Training Department on June 26, 2019, it was decided to open three departments within our Institute—Agriculture and Breeding, Food-Feed and Medicine, and Industry and Marketing—under Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, amended by Law No. 2880. Currently, our institute is staffed by six faculty members and five officers. In addition, the institute continues its activities with its director, deputy directors, and faculty members.
The Institute of Hemp Research is a research institution that aims to explore every topic, scope, and field related to hemp, moving forward confidently towards becoming a leading institute in the field.
Our institute was established with the primary goal of breaking the societal prejudices surrounding hemp and promoting the use of this plant, which offers numerous valuable properties, from its stalk to its leaves, seeds, and oil.
The institute holds the distinction of being Turkey's first multidisciplinary and comprehensive institute focused on hemp and other fiber plants. The core function of our institute is to contribute to society and science by investigating and presenting both the benefits and risks associated with hemp.
