Tissue Culture Unit

The list of applications that can be done in the Tissue Culture Laboratory within the Hemp Research Laboratories is presented below.

A. Production of Disease-Free Material: In tissue culture laboratories, new plants can be obtained from plant materials in suitable environments, and disease-free plants can be produced without contamination in the product to be obtained.

B. Clone Plant Production: Tissue culture applications are important in the production of homogeneous plantlets with the same characteristics by means of tissues taken from plants with desired characteristics. Culture environments can be provided with plant-specific methods and techniques, and are important applications in terms of Gene Preservation.

C. Micropropagation: Tissue culture applications are used to obtain new plants under sterile conditions by taking explant sources from different organs of plants. This is especially important for the propagation of materials that are few or insufficient in number. These methods are also used for plants that are difficult to propagate.

D. Breeding and Hybridization Studies: Breeding studies are studies that take many years. In breeding studies, tissue culture applications (Embryo Culture, Haploid Technique) are used to save time and money, and thanks to different methods and techniques, breeding studies that take many years can be successfully completed in a few years. At the same time, these methods can be successfully applied in hybridization studies thanks to different hybridization techniques such as Somatic Hybridization in plants that cannot be hybridized under normal conditions.

E. Creating Variations: In order to obtain genetic differences from a single material, Somaclonal Variation is a technique used to obtain dominant or homogeneous forms of genetically recessive genes or completely different new materials, and it is a much more successful method than methods such as mutation. It is a technique used especially in breeding studies. All these techniques are performed in material-specific culture forms.

F. Embryo Rescue Technique: There may be some problems with the seeds obtained, especially in breeding studies. Especially in cases where there is an insufficient or poorly developed endosperm layer, cultivation from seeds is not possible under normal conditions. In such cases, seeds can be placed in artificial nutrient media to ensure plant development.
