The 2nd Turkey Hemp Sector Meeting was held at Ondokuz Mayıs University.
Hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University on June 27-28, 2024, the 2nd Turkey Hemp Sector Meeting was held with broad participation from public institutions and organizations as well as the private sector. Sector representatives from all over Turkey came together to discuss innovations, collaboration opportunities and sectoral developments in the hemp industry.
A total of 142 participants attended the meeting, and the event provided an important platform for the development of sectoral collaborations. There were 17 participants in the “Food and Feed” field, 22 participants in the “Biodegradable Material” field, 28 participants in the “Medicine and Cosmetics” field, 26 participants in the “Construction and Cellulose” field, 29 participants in the “Agriculture and Breeding” field, and 20 participants in the “Textile and Weaving” field.
The meeting held important discussions on the areas of use of hemp in different sectors and its sustainability potential. Sector representatives exchanged views on possible collaborations to transform hemp into high value-added products and to bring these products to the market. Projects and research that will accelerate Turkey’s progress in the hemp sector were also brought to the agenda.
It was emphasized that hemp, which has significant potential especially in the fields of biodegradable materials and medicine-cosmetics, should be evaluated in a way that will contribute to the economy. In addition, issues such as increasing agricultural production, improving hemp seeds and implementing new technologies in this field were discussed in detail.
This important two-day event at Ondokuz Mayıs University was a platform where ideas that revealed Turkey's potential in the hemp industry and shaped the future of the sector were shared.
